Itinerary
Kilimanjaro Umbwe route
Start the adventure from Umbwe Gate, trekking through the dense rainforest to reach Umbwe Cave Camp. The journey offers glimpses of Kilimanjaro’s diverse ecosystems and vibrant birdlife. Distance: 11 km.
Ascend through steep and rocky terrains, experiencing the changing landscapes, from lush forests to moorlands, reaching Barranco Camp with stunning views of the southern glaciers. Distance: 6 km.
Navigate through the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding climb, and descend to the scenic Karanga Valley, the last water point on this route to the summit. Distance: 5 km.
Trek through alpine desert landscapes, reaching Barafu Camp. Rest and prepare for the midnight ascent to the summit. Distance: 4 km.
Begin the final ascent at midnight, reaching Stella Point at dawn and continuing to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Kilimanjaro. Descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest. Distance: 17 km.
Descend through the lush Mweka route, reflecting on the accomplishment of conquering Kilimanjaro, and receive the summit certificates at Mweka Gate. Distance: 10 km.
